Japan January 07

Monday 1/23

Mike and I had lunch at Starbucks as we were running late for out meeting with Sony. The veggie sandwich was surprisingly good. We left work late and decided to go to the Asian Kitchen at Shibuya for dinner. We had a good meal. After that, we went to the bar at the strings hotel and ordered drinks.

I had tea, which they served immaculately. They served the tea pot with a 3 minute hourglass, which they turned around and left on the table. I waited till the 3 minutes were over and had a good cup of earl grey. It was about 11 PM.

Tuesday 1/24

We were able to get away from work early and decided to go to Kiddy Land. I really like stuff at Kiddy Land, I buy it more for me than my kids. After that we went to Nishi Ginza close to the Ginza station to buy some interesting Hello Kitty stuff.

Mike and I then had a beer at a small restaurant under a bridge close to Ginza station. We were stared at when we entered the place and felt a little uncomfortable. We were the only gaijin there. The hostess wanted us to order food but we were only there for a beer. The namabiru was good and the folks in the restaurant stopped staring after a while. We discussed lots of things and even filed for a patent the next morning. :)

I met with Ben, Shino and Aya at Higashi Ginza and then we all went to Gonpachi at Nishi Azabu (Roppongi Hills) for dinner. It was an excellent, gaijin friendly place. We ate and ate lots of small plates and shared stuff. Its great meeting with these guys. I really enjoy their company.

I write about the food at Gonpachi later. The restaurant is what Quentin Tarantino based a fight sequence in Kill Bill on. Click on the link to see what it looks like. The food was great and the service was fantastic too. I will definitely go back here the next time I am in Tokyo. Ofcourse, do not forget to book ahead.

Wednesday 1/25

Had to help Sony with their issue and missed dinner with Mike. I went to dinner with Ben. We went to Asian Heat at Shibuya. It is relatively cheap and the food was good. Thanks to Ben, we were able to pick items from the all Japanese menu. It was good to speak with Ben at length. We spoke about China, Japan and India and Ben's start up plans. Ben thinks differently than most people. Having money in the family really helps you take more risks and have a broader world view.
